Spider God are a band from the United Kingdom that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very raw and melodic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Fly In The Trap" which will b e released in November by Repose Records.
A very fast, r aw and melodic sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. The solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while some of the music also shows some influences of the classic Swedish style. Members of Revenant Marquis, Rope Sect and A Forest of Stars also add in some session work along with one track also adding in a brief use of clean vocals, one song synths onto the recording and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly..
On this recording Spider God remains true to the raw and melodic style of black metal that they had established on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the chilling mystery of Elisa Lam, the young Chinese-Canadian woman body was submerged in the rooftop water tank of her L.A hotel in 2013.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Spider god and if you are a fan of raw and melodic black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Fifty Second Murderer" "The Hermit" and "Invisible Light". 8 out of 10.
