ReffuS are a duo from the United Kingdom that plays an raw and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 demo "Eternal Misanthrope".
Clean playing and depressive cries start off the demo before going into more of a fast and raw black metal direction that also brings in a small amount of blast beats as well as adding in suicidal screams and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Depressive sounding melodies can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording and all of the musical instruments can be heard and they also go back to the early days of the depressive black metal genre when the music was still very raw and also bring in a touch of the second wave era and some of the slower riffs also add in a touch of doom and synths are added onto the last track.
ReffuS creates a recording of depressive black metal that is very raw and mostly guitar driven and they manage to keep everything thing very grim, dark and heavy, the production sound s very dark and raw while the lyrics cover misanthropic and depressive themes.
In my opinion ReffuS are a very great sounding raw, atmospheric and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Death Sentence" and "Eternal Misanthrope". 8 out of 10.
