United Kingdom's Old Forest have returned with a new recording which shows the band going for a modern modern, epic and atmospheric style of pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Dagian" which was released by Avantgarde Music.
Nature sounds start off the album along with some drones and atmospheric sounds and after a few seconds clean playing is added onto the recording which also leads up to a heavier musical direction which also introduces melodic pagan chants into the songs and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of folk music can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while clean singing is also utilized at times while the solos and leads are more rooted in the modern and atmospheric style of the genre and all of the tracks are very long and epic in length and synths can also be heard in some parts of the songs and all of the tracks stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Old Forest changes their style around quite a bit on this recording focusing less on a raw sound and going for more of a modern, epic, progressive and atmospheric style of pagan/black metal on this recording and they also demonstrate a great amount of talent and skill as musicians, the production sounds professional while the lyrics cover fantasy, mysticism and paganism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Old Forest and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Morwen' and "Tweoneleoht". 8 out of 10.
