Russia's Blackdeath have returned with a new recording that remains true to the raw and satanic black metal style of previous recordings and this is a review of their album "Totentanz" which will be released in 2016 by Heidens Hart Records.
Atmospheric drones start off the album and after the intro the music goes for a very fast and raw black metla direction t hat alos uses a great amount of blast beats and high pitched screams that bring back the craziness of the early 90's and after awhile the music slows down and dark sounding melodies become a very huge part of the recording.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and all of the songs remain true to a second wave style of the genre along with the vocals getting very grim at screams and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses the music starts mixing in more of a psychotic and schizophrenic take on the genre and they also bring in a short instrumental track that utilizes a small amount of epic sounding synths before returning back to t he primal side of black metal on the following songs.
Blackdeath plays a style of black metal on this recording that is very raw and remains true to the second wave tradition while also having more of a psychotic approach to the genre and all of the modern trends are ignored to take black metal back to its rawest and purest form, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism and Anti Christian themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Blackdeath and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Totenburg" "Die Turme" and "The Raised". 8 out of 10.
