Some Happy Thoughts are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that has been featured recently in this zine and plays a very raw and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2016 single "Le Manque II".
Heart beats start off the song along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later and avant garde keyboards can also be heard briefly and the track is 12 minutes in length and after awhile melodic guitar leads along with high pitched depressive black metal screams are added into the music and all of the riffs stick to a slow direction while also bringing in a small amount of tremolo picking which also gives the song more of a raw feeling and they also mix the acoustic guitars in with the heavy parts at times and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts.
Some Happy Thoughts creates a song that is over 12 minutes in length and sticks to a very slow style of depressive black metal while still also being very raw and melodic at the same time, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Some Happy Thoughts and if you are a fan of raw and depressive black metal, you should check out this single. 8 out of 10.
