Joyless Euphoria are a duo from Austria that plays post black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 album which was released by Anthrazit Records.
Field recordings start off the album along with some dark and melodic riffing a few seconds later while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them as well as the vocals being mostly high pitched black screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking can be heard which gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some acoustic guitars also being added into certain sections of the recording.
All of the tracks are very long and epic in length while some tracks also bring in atmospheric synths and elements of post rock along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic fashion and also adds in a touch of blues rock as well as adding in a touch of shoegaze and as the album progresses clean vocals can also be heard briefly.
Joyless Euphoria plays a style of post black metal that is very atmospheric as well as having its raw moments, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover mourning and human loss themes.
In my opinion Joyless Euphoria are a very great sounding post black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pallbearer" and "My Reveries". 8 out of 10.
