This is a review of another recording from Brazil's Mystifier which showed them moving away from a bestial black/death metal style to more of a melodic blackened death metal direction with elements of traditional metal and the album was originally released in 2001 and called "Profanus" and will be re-issued on November 27th by Vic Records.
Evil laughter starts off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and high pitched black metal screams.
Keyboards can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic fashion and some songs also add in influences from traditional metal as well as a brief use of clean singing an a few tracks, as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts can be heard and they also bring in 3 bonus live tracks.
On this recording Mystifier still had a very raw approach to black and death metal while also getting more melodic and adding in elements of classic heavy metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Anti Religion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mystifier and if you are a fan of black and death metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dare To Face The Beast" "Superstitious Predictions Of Misfortune" "Beyond The Rivers Of Hades" and "Sowing The Evil In Our Hearts". 8 out of 10.
