Voltumna are a band from Italy that plays a mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Dodecapoli" which was released by Sleaszy Rider Records.
A very heavy sound along with some atmospheric keyboards start off the album along with some high pitched black metal screams a few seconds later while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a decent amount of blast beats as well as the riffs also bring in a great amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion along with some death metal growls also being utilized at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with some tracks also add in a small amount of folk instruments as well as a brief use of female vocals and they also bring in an instrumental track.
Voltumna plays a musical style that takes a raw and melodic style of black metal and mixes it with old school death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Etruscan Paganism, Mythology and Modern Decay themes.
In my opinion Voltumna are a very great sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Lion, The Goat And The Serpent" "Criterion Of The Groma" "War Of Supremacy" and "The Path To Our Twilight". 8 out of 10.
