Sweden's Armagedda have returned with another re-issue which shows the music expanding their traditional black metal style to a different level and the album was originally released in 2004 and called "Old Spiritism" with the newer version coming out in May on Nordvis Produktion.
Clean playing which is also used on later tracks starts off the album while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length while spoken word parts can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction, A decent amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the guitar solos and leads are done in a very dark yet melodic style when they are utilized. The music also shows a great amount of progression from their earlier releases focusing less on the old school black metal style and showing more of a different approach that was ahead of its time in 2004.
Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction while the music does speeds up on some of the tracks as well as adding in a small amount of blast beats. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly while one track also brings in a depressive atmosphere as well as the music also getting very atmospheric and epic as the album progresses, one track is an instrumental and also introduces rain sounds onto the recording and synths can also be heard on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover darkness, death and occultism themes.
In my opinion this was another great sounding album from Armagedda and if you are a fan of mid paced black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Helvetestoner" "Doden Styr Livet" and "Afgrundsvisioner". 8 out of 10.
