Sykelig Englen are a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays a mid tempo form of black metal and this is a review of his 2019 ep "This Hollow Land" which will be released in May by AHPN Records.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the ep while the vocals are mostly high pitched yet depressive black metal screams. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while blast beats can also be heard when the music speeds up.
Most of the music sticks to a mid tempo direction while some slow sections are also utilized at times. In some parts of the songs the music gets very melancholic sounding. When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the recording more of a raw feeling the guitar solos and leads are done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and on the closing track a small amount of clean vocals can also be heard.
Svkelig Englen plays a style of black metal that is very melancholic sounding while mostly sticking to a mid tempo direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Scandinavian Folklore themes.
In my opinion Sykelig Englen are a very great sounding melancholic and mid paced black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unearthing The Hex" and "This Hollow Land". 8 out of 10.
