Ossuaire are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays a very unwholesome form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Premiers Chants" which will be released on April 26th by Sepulchral Productions.
Ritualistic sounding synths start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the music also has its atmospheric moments and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are presented on the recording.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the music also brings in a great amount of 90's influences but still maintaining a very modern atmosphere. Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some melodic chants also being added into certain parts of the music.
Bells and fire sounds can also be heard briefly along with some of the riffing also adding in a small amount of melody at times. As the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars and spoken word parts can also be heard before returning back to a heavier direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of French and English and cover the downfall of Christianity and the rise of heresy.
In my opinion Ossuarie are a very great sounding raw, corrosive and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Premiers Chants" and "Le Grande Apostasie". 8 out of 10.
