Funeral Hearse are a solo project from Singapore that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a very raw and extreme form of black metal with elements of crust punk and this is a review of his 2019 album "In Devotion Of.." which was released by Spy Satellite Records.
A very tribal and ritualistic sound starts off the album along some melodic chants starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched sounding black metal screams.
Dark sounding melodies are also added into the guitar riffing at times along with the music also adding in a touch of war metal in some parts of the music. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very raw and melodic style while a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some elements of crust punk and doom metal also being utilized at times. All of the drum beats being programmed and as the album progresses a brief use of ritualistic sounds also return but keeping the focus more on a heavy and aggressive sound, a couple of later tracks also introduces clean playing onto the recording. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the rituals of a Left Hand Path Hindu Sect the Aghori Sadhu and their practices of cannibalism and residing in a cemetery ground.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Funeral Hearse and if you are a fan of raw and extreme black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Into The Eye Of The Serpent" and "Alternate State Of Consciousness". 8 out of 10.
