Dratna are a solo project from Northern Ireland that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2019 ep "An Cath(The Battle)" which will be released on April 20th.
Nature sounds and synths start off the ep which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while one track also introduces elements of electronic music and industrial onto the recording which is also an instrumental. Most of the songs sound very different from each other and all of the music sticks mostly to either a slow or mid tempo direction along with one song also adding in a brief use of fast playing and blast beats.
Dratna plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric sounding while also being very different from most bands of the genre, The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Irish Mythology themes.
In my opinion Dratna are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shadow Of The Mountain" and "He Is Born Of Fire". 8 out of 10.
