Necroroots are a duo from Mexico that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2018 ep which was released by Silentium In Foresta Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them and blast beats can also be heard during the faster sections of the music.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling and throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. some of the riffing also adds in a good amount of dark sounding melodies along with the songs also bringing in a great amount of 90's influences.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while keyboards can also be heard in the background briefly but are over powered by the guitars. Clean playing can also be heard on one of the tracks and as the ep progresses a small amount of demonic voices are also added onto the recording. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover the mind liberation of religion.
In my opinion Necroroots are a very great sounding old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Chosen One" and "Legions Of Death". 8 out of 10.
