Dwell In Solitude are a duo that has recently been featured in this zine and plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their self released 2019 ep "The End(Of Sorrow)".
A very slow, dark and heavy sound starts off the ep while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording. Acoustic guitars is also added into some parts of the music along with the vocals being mostly grim yet depressive black metal screams and the guitar solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
Synths and stringed instruments can also be heard in some parts of the music along with the songs also getting very atmospheric at times. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the tracks also bringing in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Most of the songs are very long and epic in length while also mixing in a decent amount of post black metal elements along with some rain and thunder sounds can also be heard briefly and as the ep progresses a brief use of spoken word parts and clean vocals can also be heard,. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dwell In Solitude and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive post black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Detached" and "Deprived". 8 out of 10.
