This is a review of a split album between Australia's Burden Man and Othrs called "Grievance " which will be released in 2021 by Brilliant Emperor and we will start off the review with Burden Man a band that plays a mixture of black, dark and doom metal
Their side of the split starts out with some fast tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly black metal screams along with both of their tracks also being very long and epic in length and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in more of a 70's classic rock style along with the slower sections of the songs also adding in elements of dark and doom metal as well as adding in a brief use of clean playing which also gives the music more of a progressive feeling, clear vocals can also be heard on both of the tracks and also show an influence of folk music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and despair themes.
In my opinion Burden Man are a very great sounding mixture of black, dark and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Hours Of Emptiness".
Next up is Othrs a solo project that plays a mixture of atmospheric post black metal and dark rock.
His side of the split starts out with some dark yet heavy riffing while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Both of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as having its atmospheric moments and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style along with the songs also capturing the melancholic side of dark rock as well as adding in some clean playing in certain sections of the music, synths can also be heard at times and both of the tracks stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction, his side of the split also closes with a cover of Horseback's "Invisible Mountain". The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Othrs are a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric post black metal and dark rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Concret Graveyard".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric, post black metal, dark and doom metal.8out of 10.
