Asura are a duo from Ukraine that plays an ambient from of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 compilation album "...From The Bones Of Time" which was released in 2019 by Wolfmond Production and consists of demos that where released in between 1999 and 2001.
Ambient style keyboards start off the compilation while also mixing in with the heavier sections of the music at times. All of the drum beats are also programmed along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the music also has its atmospheric moments. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the compilation along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing as well as some of the tracks also being instrumentals, one song also introduces clean playing onto the compilation and spoken word parts can also be heard on some of the later songs. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Evil, Darkness and Blasphemy themes.
In my opinion Asura are a very great sounding raw and ambient black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Time Bone" "Frozen Suns" "River" and "Into the Dark Vortex Part III". 8 out of 10.
