This is a review of a split ep between Virginia's Mvrdvrkvltvr and California's Cynicism called "Our Gods Below" which was released by Analog Death Squad and we will start off the review with Mvrdvrkvltver a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a bestial mixture of war, black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with bestial growls and grim black metal screams before going into a heavier direction. The faster sections of the song also add in a great amount of blast beats and war metal elements along with the tremolo picking also giving the song more of a raw feeling as well as some dark sounding melodies also being added into the riffing, the track also adds in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the guitar leads also being done in a very dark and chaotic style The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism and Left hand Path themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Mydvrkvltvr and if you are a fan of war and bestial black/death metal, you should check out their side of the split.
Next up is Cynicism a solo project that plays a very raw form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with some fast playing which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the song more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the track also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion Cynicism are a very great sounding raw black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out his side of the split.
In Conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and if you are a fan of raw black and war metal, you should check out this split. 8 out of 10.
