Mons Veneris are a solo project from Portugal that plays a very raw and ritualistic form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled ep which will be released in 2021 by Harvest Of Death.
A very powerful sounding bass guitar and ritualistic organs start off the ep along with some distorted sounds before adding in heavy riffs. Both of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly tortured sounding black metal screams and the guitar leads are done in a very dark style.
Acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly while on the second track the music goes for more of a traditional black metal style. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the song more of a raw feeling along with a decent amount of 90's influence as well as adding in some melodies before returning back to a slower direction, there is also a brief use of clean vocals.
Mons Veneris brings in 2 different sounding tracks on the ep with one before more slow and ritualistic as well as the second song more more fast, raw and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Chaos, Darkness and Destruction themes.
In my opinion Mons Veneris are a very great sounding raw and ritualistic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Scythe Infested With Plagues".8 out of 10.
