Swords Of Dis are a band from the United Kingdom that plays an avant garde and occult mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Cor Mundum Crea In Me, Sanctum Ignis" which was released by Dark Terror Temple.
The sounds of fire burning start off the ep before going into more of a heavier, melodic and dissonant direction. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while clear chants can also be heard in the background briefly before making a more powerful presence.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the faster sections of the tracks also add in a lot of technical riffing and blast beats. Vocals are mostly death metal growls along with the music also being very heavily rooted in a more modern style of black metal as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also going into more of a ritualistic direction at times. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly as well as some clear vocals also being utilized at times. when keyboards and orchestral arrangements are utilized they also give the music more of a classic horror movie atmosphere.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style, clean playing can also be heard briefly and each song also sounds very different from each other. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the sacred writings of Zoroaster and The Chaldean Oracles and also explores the path of a Hermetic scholar and his journey through Self'-Kenosis.
In my opinion Swords Of Dis are a very great sounding avant garde and occult mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cor Mundum Crea In Me, Sanctum Ignis" and "Moonlight Illumes Thee". 8/5 out of 10.
