Tunsia's duo Ayyur have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Hidden Rooms Sessions I" which will be released in November as a joint effort between Xenoglossy Productions and Hidden Rooms Recordings.
Clean playing and acoustic guitars starts off the ep while the synths also bring in elements of ambient when they are utilized. Melodies can also be heard in some of the heavier riffing along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and the slower sections of the songs are also very heavily rooted in doom metal.
Spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple while the music also has its atmospheric moments rooted more in black metal and the clean sections also add in touches of folk music. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with each song also sounding very different from each other and most of the recording is instrumental and sticks to a slower direction.
On this recording Ayyur takes their music into more of a blackened doom metal direction as well as adding in elements of ambient and folk music to create something very different sounding very different from their previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the song themes focus on the myths, rites and mysticism of the Berber and Tuareg People.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ayyur and if you are a fan of black and doom metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "An Empty Hand Has Nothing To Give" and "No Salvation For Those Who Weep". 8 out of 10.
