Schwermut are a duo from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Gestalt im Wandel" which will be released on October 25th by Naturmacht Productions.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album along with a brief use of keyboards before going into a heavier musical direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to t hem along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast b eats can also b e heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feelin while some songs also add in a small amount of clean playing. The album also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also mixing in a lot of old school influences as well as keeping it modern at the same time.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with one song also introducing spoken word parts onto the album and when synths make a return in certain sections of the recording they also take the music into more of an atmospheric direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover the hardships of being, becoming and decay.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Schwermut and if you are a fan of atmospheric and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sinn" "Ritual zum Weg" and "Anru". 8 out of 10.
