Acédia are a band from Quebec, Canada that plays a very progressive and avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Fracture" which was released by Les Acteurs de L'Ombre Productions.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also add in a great amount of melody along with the vocals also being mostly angry sounding black metal screams.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a r aw feeling. The riffs and leads also add in a good amount of avant garde and progressive structures and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Throughout the album you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also having its dissonant moments as well as the music also mixing in a decent amount of post black metal elements to keep the recording in a more modern direction and growls can also be heard on a few tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover the apathetic nature of modern life and the general acceleration of time.
In my opinion Acédia are a very great sounding avant garde and progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "La fosse" and "L'inconnu". 8 out of 10.
