Voidfire Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

Jakub: I mostly focused on writing guitar parts for future releases.

2.You have a new album coming out towards the end of September, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

Jakub: When writing the music, I focused less on the sound itself and more on the emotions that I wanted to express, which makes the album more musically diverse – it’s not just pure melodic black metal, there are some influences from other genres as well. Another difference are the bass guitar parts, which are much more melodic and also more audible compared to our debut – the role of the bass is equally important to all the other instruments.

3.The lyrics on the new recording are also a concept album, can you tell us a little bit more about the story you have covered with this release?

Jakub: the story told through the lyrics of ‘W Cienie’ is a direct continuation of the one told on our debut, ‘Ogień Pustki’. It follows an artist who decides to look for inspiration in his emotions – mainly the negative ones. While the lyrics of the debut were rather literal, the lyrics of ‘W Cienie’ are much more metaphorical, while remaining very introspective. Jakub Lisicki, our lyricist, cites the Divine Comedy, as well as other long poetic forms written by classic authors, as his main inspiration.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Voidfire'?

Jakub: The name ‘Voidfire’ ties into the concept and the story told through the lyrics – we’d like to leave this somewhat open to interpretation.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

Virian: It’s made by my wife (Anna Sobczak Illustration fb/ig). She knows the bands where I am a vocalist (also Lilla Veneda) and the darkness art like no-one else. In August we visited an exhibition Satyricon & Munch in Oslo. It’s a similar connection if you know what I mean.

6.Has th eband done any live shows or open to the idea?

Jakub: We haven’t done any live shows – yet.

7.The new album is going on to be released on 'Szataniec' can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Virian: It’s a small but with a big potential polish label dedicated to the good quality music. Not only pure death or black metal. Also metal core, progressive rock etc… I like people with an open mind and a good taste. Check their catalogue.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Jakub: Our music has been received very well by people all around the world. I was amazed at how many positive reviews our debut received; I hope ‘W Cienie’ will be enjoyed just as much.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a par tof?

Jakub: I don’t currently have any other official musical projects or bands.

Virian: With Lilla Veneda we are now mixing our 3rd full length album at Impressive-Art Studio. We hope that it will be something unique. Also, we are trying to be active live. Next year probably much more because of the release. Check our social media. It’s more progressive death black weirdo.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Jakub: I tend to not make any kind of plans like this – I just make new music and see where it takes me.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles the band members are currently listening to nowadays?

Jakub: My current taste in music is quite diverse: I mostly listen to electronic music (IDM, electro, DnB – too many different artists to name each one), some post-punk, as well as, of course, metal – mostly, although not only, black metal.

Virian: On my Spotify list recently you can find: Megadeth „The Sick…”, Behemoth „Opvs…”, Bleed From Within„ Shrine”, Satyricon&Munch, Ozzy Osborne „Patient”, Again and again Death „The Sound…”, Dead Can Dance „ Anastasis”, The Weekend „After…”, Jack White „Fear of the Dawn”, Watain „The Agony…”, Rammstein „Zeit”, Unto Other „Strength”, Orville Peck „Bronco”, Top Gun ost…

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Jakub: Thank you for this interview and thanks to people who took their time to read it.
