Aldaaron are a band from France that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2012 album "Suprême silence" which will b e re-issued in November 2022 by Paragon Records and consists of their 2007 demo "Des légendes et anciens dieux" as bonus tracks.
Nature orientated soundscapes start off the album along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later before going into a heavier musical direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. Synths can also be heard at times and also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as one song also introducing spoken word parts onto the album. Rain and thunder sounds also start off the demo bonus tracks before going into a heavier direction.
On the bonus tracks the music also shows more of a 90's second wave influence as well as adding in more raw aggression than the full length along with the music also being very melodic and epic at the same time, clean playing can also be heard at times, elements of folk music and clear pagan vocals can also be heard briefly. The production on both recordings sound very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover Paganism, Mythology, Philosophy, Fantasy and Winter themes.
In my opinion Aldaaron are a very great sounding pagan black metal b and and if you are a f an of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "L'homme souverain" "Suprême silence" "En route vers la bataille" and "Dol Sagoth". 8 out of 10.
