Sweden's Mist Of Misery have returned with a new recording which continues the atmospheric, depressive and symphonic style of black metal f rom their previous releases and this is a review of their 2022 album "Severance" which will be released in November by Non Seviam Records.
Tragic sounding keyboards start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the song at times. Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams while t he music also h as its symphonic moments along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while whispered vocals can also be heard at times. Clean playing is also added into certain sections of the recording and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can are also utilized which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Atmospheric elements are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some clear vocals also being utilized in certain sections of the album, a great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover melancholy, darkness and depression themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mist Of Misery and if you are a fan of atmospheric, depressive and symphonic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "An Ode To Solitude" "Into The Embrace Of Winter" "Oceans of Grief" and "Towards The Descent". 8 out of 10.
