99.9 are a duo from Ukraine that plays a very experimental, melodic and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled and self released 2022 album.
Apocalyptic soundscapes start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast b eats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also has its experimental moments.
Spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of songs along with all of the drum beats also being programmed. At times the vocals also get very deep sounding as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of synths. The production sounds very dark and raw while t he lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism, Blasphemy and Darkness themes.
In my opinion 99.9 are a very great sounding experimental, melodic and satanic black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blasphemy! Blasphemy" and "Crucify Me, DeviL'. 8 out of 10.
