Ondfødt are a band from Finland that plays a very fast and aggressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "Det österbottniska mörkret" which will b e released in May by Black Lion Records.
A very dark and distorted sounding intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of t he musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the album you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also adds in a good mixture of both old school and modern influences. Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar riffing along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style as well as one song also introducing atmospheric touches and spoken word parts into the music, clean playing and synths can also be heard briefly.
Ondfødt plays a style of black metal that is very fast, aggressive, modern and traditional sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover the darkest side of Ostrobothnia in Finland and the witch hunting and evil spirits that surrounded that area.
In my opinion Ondfødt are a very great sounding fast and aggressive black metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tvetalan" "Where Death Roams" and "Dödsrejson". 8 out of 10.
