At The Altar Of The Horned God are a solo project from Spain that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a ritualistic form of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Heart Of Silence" which will be released in March by I, Voidhanger Records.
Ritualistic drum b eats start off the album along with a brief use of chants before going into a heavier direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while some of the tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing and synths which also add in touches of ambient.
Clear singing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The music also has its atmospheric moments along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times and on track also introduces growling vocals onto the album, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and when guitar solos and leads are added on the closing song they are done in s melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occultism, pagan rituals and the horned one.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from At The Altar Of The Horned God and if you are a fan of ritualistic occult black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Closing Circle" "Guardian Of The Threshold" and "Severing Light". 8 out of 10.
