In Dornen are a solo project from Germany that plays a very raw and melancholic form of post black metal with elements of ambient and this is a review of his 2023 album "Trauer" which was rleeased by Kvlt Und Kaos Productions.
Spoken word parts start off the album along with some melancholic and melodic sounding riffing a few seconds later. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams which also add in a depressive touch at times while the music also adds in a great amount of post metal elements and a couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the keyboards add influences of ambient when they are introduced into the music. The album also has its atmospheric moments and during t he faster sections of the songs a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling along with most of the album sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction, each track also sounds very f\different from each other and clean playing and whispers can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover emotion, despair and poetic themes.
In my opinion In Dronen are a very great sounding raw and melancholic post black metal solo project with elements of ambient and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Die Welt wiegt so schwer" and "Mein letzler Tag". 8 out of 10.
