Darkwoods My Bethroned where a band from Finland that started out as being more pgan black metal but evolved into a more atmospheric and melodic sounding black metal band with this recording and this is a review of their 2000 album "Witch-Hunts" which was released by Spinefarm Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them, as for the synths they bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music with a great amount of orchestra elements being thrown into the playing.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are not too over produced or raw sounding with a good amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the music with the songs being somewhat epic in length as well as some clean and soft playing while the lead guitars when they are utilized are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads, as for the classical guitars when they are utilized briefly they use finger picking to add another dimension of darkness to the music.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams with some spoken word parts and whispers being thrown into the music at times, while the lyrics cover Dark Witchcraft and Witch Burning and Hunting, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound to it without not being too over produced or primitive sounding.
In my opinion Darkwoods My Bethroned where a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band with a melodic edge and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Into The Circle of Stones" "The Preacher Came To Town" and "Witch Hunters". RECOMMENDED BUY.
