Kampfar are a band from Norway that plays viking/black metal with a mixture of primitive, melodic and folk music elements and this is a review of their 1998 ep "Norse".
Drums range from slow, mid to some drumming with not much in the way of blast beats, while the folk instruments bring a pagan/folk music feeling to the music in addition there is also use of an atmospheric synth, as for the bass playing it has a very strong and powerful tone with riffs that dominate throughout the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast viking/black metal riffs that are raw, primitive and melodic along with a good amount of folk music influenced melodies, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use full chords and finger picking to give the music a medieval pagan feeling.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of Norwegian and English and cover Norse Paganism themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording while not taking away from the raw and primitive nature of the music.
In my opinion this was a great ep from Kampfar and if you are a fan of this band, you should try to hunt it down since it is rare to find these days. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Norse". RECOMMENDED BUY.
