Qafas are a band from Bahrain that started out as a funeral doom metal band but evolved into an ambient black metal band with this release and this is a review of their 2011 ep "Kafkaesque Retribution" which was released by Rigorism Productions.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with some fast playing and blast beats, while the synths bring a very atmospheric and dark ambient sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast depressive black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding with some melodic parts being thrown into the riffing and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly high pitched and distorted sounding depressive black metal screams with some spoken word parts, while the lyrics cover the philosophy of Kaftka a German philosopher and writer, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Qafas are a very great sounding ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this ep. RECCOMMENDED BUY.
