Vassago where a band from Sweden that was a side project of Lord Belial members which played a mixture of black/death/war metal and this is a review of their 1999 album "Knights Of Hell" which was re-issued in 2002 as a joint effort between World War III and Mercenary Music.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a great amount of brutal sounding blast beats being thrown into the music, while the keyboards when they are utilized bring a very war like and atmospheric sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast riffs that combine the most heavy and brutal elements of black, war and death metal together with some dark sounding melodies, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding war metal guitar solos and leads that utilize some old school metal influences at times.
Vocals are a mixture of grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams mixed in with a good amount of deep death metal growls as well as some samples and spoken word parts, while the lyrics cover Goetia, Satanism, War, Rape, Darkness, Evil and Anti christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark, powerful, strong and heavy sound to it.
In my opinion Vassago where a very great sounding hybrid of black, war and death metal and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sign Of Vassago" "Agent 666" "The Origin Of Evil" and "Satanic Slayer". RECOMMENDED BUY.
