Krow Roda are a band from Germany that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Heimkehr" which was released by Northern Fog productions.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with some deep and grim black metal screams which also leads up to more of a fast and raw direction which also shows blast beats being added onto the recording and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
After awhile the vocals get more high pitched while also retaining a grim atmosphere and there are also a few tracks that are very long and epic in length and the later tracks also start incorporating more melodies and an atmospheric style of black metal while also keeping around the rawer elements and you can also hear clean playing being utilized in certain sections of the recording.
When solos and leads that are utilized are in a very melodic and modern black metal direction while the faster sections stick to more of an old school style and when clean singing vocals are utilized briefly they add a touch of pagan metal onto the recording and the last track also adds in a small amount of keyboards which also gives the music more of an ambient and epic feeling and the song is all instrumental.
Krow Roda plays a style of black metal that takes the raw style of the second wave and mixes it in with more modern and melodic atmospheric style, the production sounds very dark and raw yet very heavy at the same time while the lyrics are written in German and cover Paganism and Nature themes.
In my opinion Krow Roda are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Transzendez des Geistes' and "Mjolnir". 8 out of 10.
