Osculum Infame are a band from France that plays a satanic and occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "The Axis Of Blood" which was released by Battlesk'rs Productions.
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album along with some ritualistic sounds in the background and a small amount of synths a few seconds later and after the intro a very distorted, heavy and melodic sound starts to kick in along with some grim and depressive sounding black metal screams and they also mix the heavy parts in with the sounds that where heard on the intro.
At times the band brings in more of a raw style of black metal along with a great amount of blast beats and when solos and leads are utilized they are in a very melodic musical direction and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and a good portion of the songs are also very long and epic in length.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and the music is firmly rooted in the second wave while also bringing in a modern approach to that genre and the songs also mix in a great amount of melody in with the more raw side of their musical sound and the vocals also get very deep at times enhancing the grim atmosphere of the recording and later tracks also bring in a small amount of spoken word parts and clean playing while a later song also brings in a brief use of violins which adds more of a depressive nature to the music.
Osculum Infame plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic and also brings in a ritualistic atmosphere and a great amount of fast parts to create a very heavy and evil sounding recording while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion Osculum Infame are a very great sounding satanic, occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cognitive Perdition Of The Insane" "Let There me Darkness" "White Void" and "Solemn Faith". 8/5 out of 10.

They were one of my favorites along side Root and Abigor, as I loved the non-Nordic stuff the best. Only because they did things strange and different
