Hoth are a solo project from Portugal that plays a very raw and occult form of black metal and this is a review of his 2015 album "The Black Goddess Return" which was released by Iron, Blood & Death Corporation.
An atmosphere that is very close to a horror movie soundtrack starts off the album along with some synths and spoken word ritualistic parts and after the intro elements of thrash metal and melodic guitar leads which also dominate throughout the recording are added into the music along with some grim black metal screams.
When the music speeds up blast beats are added onto the recording and the songs also start bringing in more of a raw and old school black metal sound while the slower sections utilize a great amount of melody and the sounds that where also on the intro make their return in certain sections of the recording giving the songs more of a dark, evil and occult atmosphere.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the way the music is played avoids any modern style from the past 20 years while the production is a little bit more up to date and the songs also bring in a great amount of influences from the first wave of black metal and a couple of the later tracks also brings in a small amount of clean playing as well as adding in a instrumental track while the following songs bring back the vocals and the last track is very long and epic in length.
Hoth plays a style of black metal that mixes the first wave with the early days of the second wave to create am album that is very raw and old school sounding, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Anti Christian, Evil, Death and Satanism themes.
In my opinion Hoth are a very great sounding raw, old school and occult black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Angel Slayer" "Upon The Sacred hill" "God Of Wrath" and "Demons Enthrall All Deceivers". 8 out of 10.
