Idolatry are a band from Alberta, Canada that plays a very dark, melodic and raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self released and self titled 2014 demo.
A very raw and old school black metal sound starts off the demo along with some fast riffs, blast beats, dark sounding melodies and grim screams a few seconds later and after awhile the music starts bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with soem of the riffs bringing in a Swedish feeling at times.
At times the vocals bring in a very high pitched tone that also has a very depressive and suicidal feeling and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and while the riffs have a 90's feeling at times the production makes the songs sound more up to date and when solos and leads are utilized they bring more melodies onto the recording and a couple of the tracks also brings in a brief use of spoken word parts.
Idolatry plays a style of black metal that is very raw yet melodic at the same time and also adds in a touch of the Swedish sound at times while also having more of a grim take on the musical style, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover dark, hateful and occultism themes.
In my opinion Idolatry are a very great sounding dark, raw and melodic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Stygian Creed" and "Of Myth And Shadow". 8 out of 10.
