Total Negation/Zeitzeuge/Temple Of Torturous/2015 CD Review

  Total  Negation  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  and  depressive  black  metal,  doom  and  krautrock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  album  "Zeitzeuge"  which  will  be  released  in  June  by  Temple  Of  Torturous.

  A  very  distorted  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  a  few  seconds  later  melodic  guitar  leads  and  once  grim  screams  are  added  into  the  music  the  recording  starts  bringing  in  more  of  a  depressive  black  metal  style  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  and  length  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Doom  metal  elements can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  music  and  when  synths  are  added  onto  the  recording  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  dark  and  atmospheric  sound  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  acoustic  guitars  and  elements  of  krautrock  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  experimental  feeling.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  the  music  starts  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  and  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  style  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  at  times  some  of  the  guitar  leads  bring  in  elements  of  post  black  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  clean  playing  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  songs  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  one  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  thrash  influences.

  Total  Negation  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  a  very  modern,  raw  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  doom  metal  and  krautrock  to  create  some  very  original  sounding  music,  the  production  sounds  very  original  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  covers  a  story  of  a  contemporary  witness  who  breaks  under  the  pressure  of  controlling  the  life  and  death  of  others.

  In  my  opinion  Total  Negation  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal,  doom  and  krautrock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fluechtling"  and  "Zeitzeuge".  8  out  of  10.
