Curezum are a band from Portland, Oregon that has been featured before in this zine and does cover songs from The Cure and takes them into more of a black metal direction and this is a review of their 2016 single "A Forestt/Siamese Twins" which will be released in September by Static Tension Recordings.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the single along with some hard yet melodic riffs a few seconds later as well as some drum beats and the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and when vocals are brought into the music they are mostly grim black metal s creams and blast beats can also be heard when the music speeds up.
Both of the songs sound very different from the original versions of the songs while still retaining the melancholic mixture and there is also some session work from Matron Thorn of AEvangelist and Christopher Van Huffel of Eight Bells and the fast riffs also bring in a small amount of tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling.
Curezum once again bring in a couple of songs from The Cure and takes them into more of a modern black metal style, the production sounds very raw yet powerful at the same time and the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from the Cure and if you are a fan of either black metal or The Cure, you should check out t his single. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Siamese Twins". 8 out of 10.
