Arkheth are a band from Australia that plays a very experimental form of black metal and this is a review of their album "!2 Winter Moons Comes The Witches Brew" which will be released in 2018 by Transcending Obscurity Records.
A very dark and evil soundscape starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction which also mixes in a great amount of experimental and avant garde elements along with some tremolo picking and blast beats during the faster sections of the songs which also gives the songs a more raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while all of the tracks being very long and epic in length as well as the music getting very progressive at times along with some saxophones also being added into certain sections of the recording and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid parts.
Spoken word parts and whispers can also be heard at times while operatic female vocals can also be heard briefly along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of clean guitars and keyboards and as the album progresses the riffs also start incorporating more melody and clean vocals when they are utilized are mixed down low in the mix on one track while getting more powerful on a later song and all of t he tracks sound different from each other.
Arketh plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in black metal while also being very experimental and avant garde as well as mixing other genres in their sound, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover nature, misanthropy and occult themes.
In my opinion Arketh are a very great sounding experimental black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dark Energy Equilibrium" and "The Fool Who Persists In His Folly". 8 out of 10.
