Ignis Noctem are a band from Dallas, Texas that plays a musical style they refer to as 'funeral black metal' and this is a review of their 2017 album "They Lord Of Chaos" which was released by Vacula Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album along with some spoken word parts and atmospheric synths before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also introduces blast beats and tremolo picking onto the recording while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some songs also bringing in clean playing and acoustic guitars as well as mixing both the heavy and atmospheric parts together at times and as the album progresses a brief use of whispered vocals can also be heard.
Ignis Noctem plays a style of black metal that is very dark, raw and depressive sounding, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover funerals, depression, Occultism, Satanism, Astrology, and Mysticism themes.
In my opinion Ignis Noctem are a very great sounding funeral black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Unholy Calling From Death" and "Decaying SOul". 8 out of 10.
