Thantifaxath are a band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that plays a very technical, dissonant and bleak form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "Void Masquerading As Void" which was released by Dark Descent Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs a more raw feeling while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams as well as the music also getting very technical and dissonant at times.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length, when keyboards are utilized briefly they give the music more of an avant garde feeling along with the slower sections of the songs also adding in a small amount of doom metal elements.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very technical fashion while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and as the ep progresses acoustic guitars and stringed instruments can also be heard briefly and some of the riffing also mixes in the brutality of death metal and the last track is in more of an experimental and operatic style.
Thantifaxath plays a style of black metal that is very technical, bleak and dissonant sounding, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover depression, death and misery themes.
In my opinion Thantifaxath are a very great sounding technical, bleak and dissonant black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ocean Of Screaming Sphere" and "Cursed Numbers". 8 out of 10.
