Hoofmark are a solo project from Portugal that plays a mixture of raw black metal, Americana and country music and this is a review of his 2017 album "Stoic Winds" which will be released in December by Ultraje.
Dark yet raw riffing starts off the album along with some spoken word parts also being utilized at times while acoustic guitars are also added into certain sections of the recording and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard.
Vocals are a mixture of grim black metal screams and shouts while the music also mixes in a great amount of second wave influences along with elements of punk as well as adding in some melodic yet raw guitar leads at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and as the album progresses elements of Americana and country music are also added into certain sections of the recording which also introduces a small amount of clean male and female vocals.
Hoofmark plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in raw black metal while t he elements of Americana and country gives the songs more of an original feeling, the production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Fantasy, Philosophy and Anti Religion themes.
In my opinion Hoofmark are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal, Americana and country music and if you are looking for something very original, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Amongst A Sea Of Darkness" "Dust Trails Blazing" and "Horror Maximus". 8 out of 10.
