Eye Of Nix are a band from Seattle, Washington that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and plays a raw and avant garde mixture of black metal, crust and sludge and this is a review of their 2017 album "Blasck Somnia" which will be released on December 15th by Scry Recordings.
Atmospheric drones start off the album along with some clean yet distorted playing a few seconds later which also leads up to a heavier musical direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched and angry black metal screams and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling while the slower sections of the songs also bring in elements of sludge and doom metal along with some clean vocals also being utilized at times.
Some songs also bring in a small amount of clean and acoustic guitars while experimental and avant garde elements can also be heard briefly along with a brief use of whispers as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and as the album progresses elements of crust can be heard and some tracks also display a more psychedelic side.
Eye Of Nix creates another recording that remains true to their mixture of black metal and sludge while also getting more avant garde and progressive this time around, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Eye Of Nix and if you are a fan of black metal ans sludge, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fear's Ascent" and "A Hideous Visage". 8 out of 10.
