Throaat are a duo from New York that plays a very raw and old school mixture of black and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Reflections In Darkness" which will be released on November 24th by Dying Victims.
Drum beats and fast and raw riffing which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats start off the album while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as a decent amount of atmospheric synths on some of the tracks.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic yet old school style and the riffs also mix in elements of first wave black metal and thrash.
As the album progresses elements of traditional metal can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while one track also brings in a brief use of horror movie samples as well as one of the later songs being an instrumental and they also bring in a Tormentor cover close to the end.
Throaat plays a musical style that takes the first and second wave styles of black metal and mixes them together with a touch of thrash and heavy metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover death, hell and Satanism themes.
In my opinion Throaat are a very great sounding raw and old school mixture of black and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Burning The Ice" "Alive Inside Of The Pentagram" "Tormentia" and "Impaler's Night". 8 out of 10.
