Deinonychus are a band from the Netherlands that plays a suicidal mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Ode To Act Of Murder, Dystopia And Suicide" which will be released in December by My Kingdom Music.
Depressive black metal screams along with some doom metal riffs start off the album while the faster sections of the songs bring in great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs a more raw feeling as well as adding spoken word parts into certain sections of the recording.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the keyboards when they are utilized give the songs more of an atmospheric and avant garde feeling as well as a great portion of the tracks being long and epic in length and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of depressive melodies.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and as the album progresses a brief use of Gregorian chants can also be heard while a later track also introduces clean playing onto the recording along with the vocals also utilizing a more suicidal edge.
Deinonychus plays a musical style that takes depressive black metal and mixes it with doom metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover pain, sorrow, stress and misery themes.
In my opinion Deinonychus are a very great sounding suicidal mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Life Taker" "Dead Horse" and "There Is No Eden". 8 out of 10.
