Graal are a duo from Nova Scotia, Canada that plays a bestial mixture of war and occult black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Ocularchy" which will be released in September by Balor's Eye Productions.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album along with some grim yet angry sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking, blast b eats and war metal elements can be heard which also gives the recording more of a r aw feeling.
Bestial growls can also be heard on a few tracks while discordant melodies are also added into the guitar riffing at time'. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also bringing in more of an old school vibe and the influence of punk rock can also be heard at times as well as the music also having its psychedelic moments. Some of the vocals also mix in touches of the first wave era and the whole recording also sticks to a heavier direction.
Graal plays a musical style that takes war metal and mixes it with old school occult black metal and touches of punk to create a sound of t heir own. The production sounds very raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover the Saturnian Current In Irish/Gaelic Myth, Alchemy and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Graal are a very great sounding bestial mixture of war and occult black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Resurrecting The Vessel" "In The Swollen Eye" "Brine-Fire" and "To Witness The Alchemical Horror of Purification". 8 out of 10.
