Vathr are a band from Norway that plays a very epic, melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Dead & United" which will be released in September by Edged Circle Productions.
Clear vocals and clean playing starts off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while the music is heavily rooted in the mid 80's to early 90's era. Melodies are also added 9into a lot of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic yet old school style. At times the vocals also add in some grim black metal touches along with the tremolo picking also giving t he songs more of an epic atmosphere and the whole recording sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
Vathr plays a style of black metal that show's a very heavy influence of viking era Bathory and mixes it with the grim atmosphere of second wave Norwegian black metal to create a sound of t heir own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Vathr are a very great sounding epic, melodic and old school black metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRA CK "Messiah". 8 out of 10.
