Phantom Spire are a solo project from Albany, new York that plays a very raw form of ambient black metal and this is a review of his 2021 album "Our Heaven Amongst the Stars" which was released by Obscurant Visions.
Ambient style synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs. All of the drum beats are programmed while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and blast beats can be heard in the faster sections of the songs.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while the vocals also add in some suicidal touches at times. The drum beats also give the music more of a militant feeling along with the guitar riffing also adding in a good amount of raw aggression and most of the album sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
Phantom Spire plays a style of ambient black metal that is very raw and mid tempo sounding. The production sounds very dark, r aw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover Darkness themes.
In my opinion Phantom Spire are a very great sounding raw ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Throne Of Silver" and "Crystal Fortress Of The Frozen Moon". 8 out of 10.
